Since January 2021, The Daily Doug has grown into a thriving online community of music lovers representing all corners of the world. Dr. Helvering’s videos and content is published on his YouTube and Patreon platforms.
The Short Story Behind The Daily Doug…
Doug earned his Doctoral Degree in Music Composition in 2008 and soon returned ‘home’ to Westminster Choir College (where he did his Masters Degree) to become a Music Professor. He served as (Adjunct) Assistant and Associate Professor until 2020. While still unsure of the next step in his career, he started The Daily Doug as a vlog for personal fulfillment. After a few months, at the urging of his brother Dan, Doug started producing reaction-style videos. Since that time, Dr. Helvering has applied his knowledge of Music Theory and Composition to Popular Music styles, including Progressive Rock, Metal, Classic Rock, Pop, Jazz Fusion, and more. His quick wit and personality, combined with his ability to entertain and inform, provide the backbone of The Daily Doug’s appeal. And, since Dr. Helvering has largely not heard (or critically listened to) many of these musical selections previously, his viewers get the added excitement of seeing someone experience and enjoy this music for the first time. The Daily Doug YouTube community now has over 480,000 active subscribers. And, The Daily Doug Patreon Community has more than 1000 members of Helvering’s Army.
